The Quiet Revolution

Dating all the way back to the battle on the Plains of Abraham, there were divides between the French speaking province of Quebec and English speaking majority of Canada. This led to a Quebecois separatist movement for greater representation and autonomy. Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau compromised with movement leaders to create a united Canada that represented the French speaking Quebecois and the Canadian English majority.

Conflict and Compromise

Despite the ongoing conflict between Francophones and Anglophones in Quebec, the government of Quebec was able to compromise to keep the country united. Canada is now a bilingual country, recognizing both French and English as official languages, and the Quebecois have increased their autonomy. The compromises of the Quiet Revolution left a lasting impression in Canada and its existence as a diverse nation.
